Warning Signs Of Building Your Internet Business To Fast

Starting and building a Internet business are two different things. Starting is the process of looking around, getting ideas and saying "lets do it". Building is making a commitment to a more long range plan for growth and success of your Internet business, so why the warnings?

Internet Business Addictions

There are certain warning signs that pop up when you are getting addicted to building your business. Lets look first at a few reasons this can happen:

  1. You hate your job and are looking desperately for other options
  2. You want to make a lot of money fast
  3. You have a compulsive nature
  4. You are excited because there are so many ways to make money in your Internet business you can't sleep
  5. You keep buying book after book and products, there is just not enough time for it all

You get the idea, all these things lead to stress and poor health. You hear people saying "I work 8 hours here, then I work part time for another 6 hours and I only get 3 hours sleep" and some are dissatisfied if they don't maintain this schedule. My question is - What good is it if you end up in bad health?

This is my warning when you see the signs of Internet Addiction.

Years ago working in manufacturing the general attitude was Do whatever it takes to get the job done. As things were changing and management was getting goofy many of us felt our stress levels climbing. This stress grinding away day after day produced warnings like poor sleep, stomach aches, headaches, etc.. Instead of making changes I was trained well to the mindset of Whatever it takes, what a mistake. One day at work it all came to a head, I physically froze up, I just shut down. It took many years to recover from that situation, but it didn't happen over night, looking back there were plenty of signs preceding it.

Building An Internet Business Is Just A Business

The Internet business has the same hazards and maybe more. Be excited, be enthusiastic, but be aware of the signs you might becoming addicted too.

I read it frequently in comments and forums, "I'm confused and frustrated" or "I have headaches at night from information overload". From experience I can tell you there is no amount of success or money that compares to having good health. You will be sending all your money to the health care system or when you drop dead you heirs will be the benefactors.

Building An Internet Business On Tamed Emotions

The emotions and the thoughts of "what can be" usually will stir a persons balance of how addictive they become. To endure the process of building an Internet business you must have a plan, and ration it out daily. Included is breakfast, lunch and some exercise. If your Internet business is starting on a part time basis allocate focused, quality time because chances are this window for work will be smaller at the start. You have to squeeze all you can from this time slot.

5 Minutes before And After

Take 5 minutes at the start of each day to mentally map out the days plan, plant positive thoughts and start the day relaxed.

Take 5 minutes or more at night to review your day, read or think of something that is positive right before you sleep. The reason is you subconscious mind will work with it while you sleep so, if the last thing you see is the nightly news with murder, tax increases and wars guess what, you will wake up stressed out. Do the opposite and guess again, you will wake up relaxed and in a positive mindset. Just this small change can make the whole day better.

So Is Building An Internet Business Worth It?

I think so, but is building an Internet business worth the addiction and the costs to your health, you know my answer is NO. The discipline of following a daily plan, the patience to build your business at a swift but yet healthy pace is very possible. There are numerous ways to Make More Money from the Internet and still have a good time doing it.

With a good plan I think you can have your cake and eat it to (to coin a phrase) but in marketing they want to sell you the whole cake factory with no money down, We see how that worked out in the real estate market, don't let this happen to you when building your Internet business. If you would like to followup a little more on this subject Starting A Internet Business can help.

Hello rb11 - Wow - an EXCELLENT Hub and thank you. I am definitely addicted to my Internet business. I spend way too much time at the computer and my stomach is getting bigger by the hour! Actually, I do my best thinking when I'm away from my computer on my afternoon walks. My favorite line from your hub was: "There is no amount of success or money that compares to having good health." I will remember this advice. Thanks, dawei888

This is an awesome lens rb11! I myself am struggling with balancing my life and building an internet business, and I can see what you mean. So far, I have been lucky enough to be still in good health, but I have slightly dropped my commitment in terms of getting physically fit, and also my social life. It can be really sad and lonely, and having a great balance and achieving goals with this business is very important. At the end of the day, what is money if you have a miserable life with ill-health?

Thanks again for sharing!

I was thinking this morning about writing a hub about being addicted to the internet.

I was running two businesses online with a partner for awhile. We had an eccommerce site and an ebay store.

The hours were long. I could easily spend 15 hours a day online and not realize it. Although we were making money, it was quite stressful. I find myself still spending many hours online.

I think you havefind a balance, as with anything you do. If you can enjoy your work, it does not stress you so much. Don't pressure yourself so much, and set reachable goals each day.

Thank you for the insightful hub!

"Take 5 minutes at the start of each day to mentally map out the days plan, plant positive thoughts and start the day relaxed." I couldn't agree more with you on that comment, that is such a great advice. I used to be everywhere trying to do everything and end up achieving very little at the end of the day. But once I started taking a few minutes to organize my thoughts before I began my days, I saw myself working so much more efficiently. Great hub rb11 and thanks for all the great advice.

Great information! One of my hardest tasks is keeping myself focused and not wandering about aimlessly on the web when I should be writing! I have found that using a simple timer program on my computer (when I set it lol!) helps tremendously in focusing. I set it for an hour and then get to the tasks I figure I can do in that time, keeps be from stressing at the end of the day over how little I feel I've accomplished.

That's actually a good idea. The other thing I noticed is we all have different tolerances for focus. I believe it OK to go 45 mins and take a break if that's your focus range.

Thanks for the advice...

Thanks for the reminder to keep things in balance. I can get carried away with being online. Not only does my gut expand but it can take away from family time. I need that reminder now and then...Thanks again
