Adsense Advantages

Almost everyone on this planet, who wants to make money online, has heard of Google adsense. If you haven't, adsense is a pay per click program run by Google. Someone creates a small ad, pays Google a fee each time someone clicks on their ad.

You, as the publisher, will get a percentage (65%) of the fee Google charges for that click if it's done through your site.

Adsense Advantages

Adsense is a popular way to monetize your website for a few reasons:

  1. It's pretty relevant to your subject, not perfect, but good.
  2. Ads are targeted for the location. Lets say your site is about lawyers, a person with an IP in Chicago is reading your site. Some of the ads displayed will be for local lawyers in that area. This makes the ads even more relevant, the reader has more interest in clicking the ad, you make more money.
  3. You can block ads.
  4. You have options to mix and match image or text ads.

These are just a few of the advantages of adsense. Lets look at ad formats.

Adsense Formats

When we say adsense formats, we mean size, colors and placement. Among the big three search engines bing, yahoo and google, yahoo has pulled out of the small retail ad game. This pretty much leaves google as the master.

A big part of their revenue comes from ads, one of the problems is abuse. This could be one of the reasons they have clamped down on approving applications for adsense.

You could say that "adsense gone wild" is the theme for bloggers these days. This leads to ad blindness and people become immune to clicking ads. This is the reason you will see website owners trying a variety of placements and colors that differ from traditional statistics.

Sample

If you want to see a really clean niche site, with what looks to be a good strategic ad block, then take a look at this debt blog.

It belongs to someone I subscribe to. It's not unique, but I found it refreshingly neat and clickable.

The colors blend nicely, it's not overcrowded and he has matched it up with other relevant affiliate ad blocks.

The point here is, try different things. You may have a tighter theme that another format would work better. You might try a larger ad text compared to your content text, this could get the attention of your reader and result in more clicks for you.

Also note that this debt blog site has loose content, this is intentional if you are publishing adsense as your primary income flow. Lets take a closer look at this aspect of selling advertising.

Content for Adsense Prosperity

You will find two schools of thought when it comes to content. Some will say write long, detailed posts. Others suggest writing shorter informative posts with loose ends, this will lead to the reader wanting more information, thus clicking ads.

Make no mistake, when you use adsense you are selling advertising. There are people on the other end of those ads paying good money, they deserve value for their money. You, as a publisher, needs to keep this in mind.

Content for Adsense

I'll give you an example. I have a site about divorce attorneys. I cover fees, types of divorce and interviewing a divorce lawyer. Knowing that divorce attorney ads pay well, we have to look at all subjects associated with this.

At the end of each post I always invite the reader to use the information provided to look for a lawyer among our ads. Now, I don't say "click my ads" this would violate Google's TOS, but you can say something like "the internet provides a convenient way to find an attorney for your needs." You get the idea.

What Counts - what counts is what your readers want. If the ads are to bright for them, tone it down. If the ads are not relevant enough, tighten up your content. If the clicks are cheap, your subject could be to vague.

Traffic - Lets give a little reminder, you and I know that all this talk about adsense income and content creation mean nothing unless you get people to read it.

The answer to better adsense prosperity will come from your readers. They will tell you if your providing what they want by simply clicking, or not, it's as simple as that.

Monthly Adsense Income

  • 0 to $50.00
  • $51.00 to $100.00
  • $101.00 to $200.00
  • $200.00 and Over

Great Article rb11, very informative. I just registered my google adsense account a few weeks ago and adsense revenue has increased more than I thought it would. I just need to learn certain keyword tricks that help to maximize my adsense relevance..

Do you know how much we get paid per click if the PPC cost is $10 per click? Do we get a certain percentage that we share with hubpages or do we get all of that click revenue?

Entourage, thanks for coming by. If you gt the max payout per click it's in the neighborhood of 68%. Hubpages runs their adsense id 40% of the time and yours 60% of the time. When your id is in play you get the full percentage of the revenue.
